Delivered long-term and short-term individual psychotherapy services to a caseload of approximately 8 patients with a range of Axis I and II disorders. Administered, scored, interpreted, and wrote reports for objective cognitive, neuropsychological, and personality and projective assessments; including: PAI, RBANDS and other neuropsychological tests. Conducted pre-surgical psychological assessments of chronic pain patients to determine suitability for neurosurgery. Facilitated a pain coping group, a 12-session group that has two components: the first half is psychoeducation learning with various aspects of chronic pain; the second half concentrates on teaching coping strategies, relaxation techniques, and mindfulness-based exercises. Facilitated Pain Process Group, an ongoing weekly, drop-in group therapy for chronic patients who previously completed the Pain Coping Group. Facilitated Family Support Group, a psychoeducation group for family members of chronic pain patients. Conducted Opioids Risk Assessment for chronic pain patients. Participated in Interdisciplinary work-hardening program/Pain medicine treatment team as a consultant. Completed EPIC training at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare.

Advanced Practicum Student in Health Psychology

Multidisciplinary hospital-wide consultation-liaison, assessment, and intervention on adult services including Orthopedics, Neurology, Organ Transplant, Plastic Surgery, General Surgery, Oncology, Pulmonary, Cardiology, Family Practice, General Medicine, Renal, and Geriatrics. Conducted brief, bedside psychotherapy and cognitive evaluation with inpatients. The patient population included people with spinal cord dysfunction, brain injury, acute and chronic pain, progressive neurological disorders, pulmonary disorders, organ transplantation, metabolic disorders, stroke, and other conditions. Administered, scored, interpreted, and wrote reports for objective cognitive, neuropsychological, and personality assessments including: MCMI, WAIS-IV, MBMD, and other neuropsychological tests. As a member of the Health Psychology Consultation Team, communicated with staff about patients’ psychological and cognitive functioning, conferred with staff on how to increase/maintain patients’ treatment adherence, and worked with staff to provide patients with individually- tailored psychosocial care. Attended weekly ‘brown bag’ sessions that covered materials including mental status exam, case conceptualization, neuropsychological evaluation, the psychologists’ role on a multidisciplinary team, working with children and older adults in medical settings, physical illness and disability, pain management, and life after loss. Completed EPIC training at the UW Hospital and Clinics.

Therapy Trainee in Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine

Delivered long-term and short-term individual therapy to a caseload of approximately 12 patients with a range of Axis I and II disorders. Completed necessary documentation, treatment planning, individual and group notes, and case management. Co-facilitated a weekly Mindfulness-based Dual Diagnosis group for adults with severe mental illness (with Axis II presentations) who have coexisting problems with drugs and/or alcohol.

Worked in tandem with psychiatry to provide integrated and comprehensive psychosocial rehabilitation services. Attended and presented a case at monthly Case Consulting Group where psychologists, psychiatrists, and nurse practitioners discussed cases. Completed EPIC training at Medical College of Wisconsin.

Supervised five masters’ students’ therapy practicum and conduct bi-monthly individual supervision. Helped students develop theoretical orientation and case conceptualization with focus on Psychodynamic therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Provided feedback on cases, and completed evaluations for and of supervisees.

Adjustment Counselor

Provided therapy and counseling for at-risk urban students who were struggling with their cultural, ethnic, and sexual identities, as well as their academic concerns. Worked with a caseload of 10 students; provided individualized counseling and group counseling under the supervision of the head student support coordinator. Counseled high-risk high school students, with an emphasis on providing support and counseling for ESL learners, and students with learning disabilities and social/emotional challenges. Engaged in crisis management and psycho-education including consultations with teachers and parents to support student academic success and mental health. Supervised and chaperoned college preparation trip for at-risk students to Bunker Hill Community College. Organized and facilitated Hope for Haiti with school counselors and classroom teachers in which students created art work with hopeful messages for earthquake survivors at local schools in Haiti.
